Metroconnect

Is a high-end measurement device that communicates over both wired and wireless networks. This industrial device has an extreme low power usage and is equipped with a 1.6GHz Intel® Atom™ Embedded processor. It is capable of handling multi-threaded tasks for parallel calculations. The metroconnect supports all major services and protocols. Default services like HTTP, SSH and NTP are available within the Metroconnect OS. The system architecture is x86. This makes it possible to run every native PC-application on the metroconnect provided it is based on Linux 2.6.

The metroconnect can handle full high-definition video and audio. Output resolution supports up to 1080p full High-Definition on the HDMI™ 1.3a. The audio in- and output are capable of handling full High-Definition audio channels and accepts a maximum of eight channels. The metroconnect will determine it's in- and outdoor location with the optional 50 channels (A)GPS module. The location co-ordinates will be real-time available on each network interface.

The metroconnect is optimised to handle wireless networks like, Wi-Fi™ 802.11a ⁄ b ⁄ g ⁄ n (300 Mbit ⁄ s) and 3G+ HSUPA (14.4 Mbit ⁄ s downlink and 2.0 Mbit ⁄ s uplink). The network interfaces can be switched dynamically on availability, or used in full balanced mode for high downlink speeds. With the two uSIM card interfaces, it is even possible to use two separate providers. The Wi-Fi™ and 3G+ modules are upgradable via the three Mini PCIe® busses for future wireless technologies. The Wi-Fi™ can also be set to access point mode to enable wireless clients to connect to the metroconnect for the use of the fast 3G+ network. The ethernet port has a speed of maximum 1Gbit ⁄ s.

The main possibilities with the metroconnect are collecting, aggregating and interpreting data, video and audio broadcasting, positioning, remote management and establishing a high quality and reliable wireless connection. The metroconnect can broadcast directly or periodically to a centralised application. Local storage can be added on the SATA port for de-centralised or temporary data.

Mediaconnect TV

Is a new media device connecting to unmanaged and managed IP services and optionally including DVB® solutions. The mediaconnect tv is based on the metroconnect os, a linux based high performance firmware, with fast boot times, high uptime, device management and a high performance framework to access all hardware layers. The device is equipped with an Intel® CE3100 Embedded media processor.

The framework has Application Programming Interfaces (API) for e.g. the media player, webcam, local or USB™ storage, EPG and User Interface (UI). The media player is capable of playing all major codecs. The video and audio codecs are hardware accelerated by the Intel media processor and the including drivers. The framework can use up to six hardware optimised graphical layers all with optional alpha channels. The layers can have a resolution up to 1080p full High-Definition on HDMI™ 1.3a and are downscaled on component to 1080i and 576p on the composite. The HDMI™ port has HDCP license option to encode the traffic on the HDMI™ cable.

The framework supports one-way traffic via DVB-T ⁄ S ⁄ C and two-way via IP (Ethernet, Wi-Fi™ and Cellular), as well as hybrid two-way solutions through combinations of DVB® and IP. Over IP it is possible to use peer-to-peer technology for media distribution and any type of streaming for live content. Recorded, local or USB™ stored content can be distributed via DLNA® ⁄ uPnP™ AV to other devices.

The UI API has a simple interface via the programming language, Python, and supports al major pixel and vector image types. The user interface can be controlled via the infrared, Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi™ or standard input devices (keyboard and mouse) integrated API. The UI API has a full featured web browser with Adobe® Flash® 10.0 support. The API interfaces easily with Python. The media player UI contains all needed trick play features to control the media player from the framework, for e.g. play, stop, pause, 1.5x ~ 32x forward ⁄ rewind and record to disk. The UI is rendered directly on the OpenGL ES™ and OpenVG™ hardware layers and are capable to render 2D vector and 3D models. Default features are therefore available for e.g. CoverFlow and Reflection. The next generation of watching television is enabled by the mediaconnect tv.
